With workforces everywhere currently working from home in response to COVID-19, HR leaders around the world are presented with the unique challenge of finding ways to adapt to the current situation and resuming normal business operations.

Today, all of us need to find and develop new ways of working. Luckily for HR leaders, there is an array of digital tools to help keep business moving forward.

Digital Onboarding

First and foremost, recruitment must still go on. Ordinarily, the recruitment of new employees would present numerous challenges during a time when everyone is working remotely. However, today, this is made a lot easier. Today, through technology, HR professionals can digitally onboard new hires remotely.

As part of the onboarding stage, employees can utilize e-learning tools and participate in online team and group meetings.

Effective Communication

HR technology has also made communication much more effective. How do you reach and communicate important updates to your workforce amidst the overload of information we already experience? Relevance and personalization are both key, so too is the ability to receive information quickly and easily.

Above all, it’s imperative to choose the right communication tool that allows HR professionals to send the right message to the right group through the right channel.

Keeping Colleagues Connected

It’s not only the communications you send to your workforce that are important, it’s also the communication between colleagues. A great example of a company maintaining strong communication between colleagues despite working remotely is German bicycle company, Derby Cycle.

The company is using the communication tool inside their Benify benefits and total reward platform as their primary communication device to create and send important updates to employees via push notification, e-mail and in-portal messages.

Greater Access to Employee Benefits

During times of uncertainty, it’s more important than ever that employees feel supported. One of the best ways employers can convey their support is through their employee benefits offering. However, a common problem many employers face is low participation rates. In most cases, it’s not the benefits themselves that are the issue but rather the lack of awareness. Again, this is where effective communication is essential.

Another common reason for low participation rates is the cumbersome enrollment process. Forget the days where employees needed the help of HR to manually enroll them into new benefits. Think: the greater employee self-service, the greater the participation. This is especially true during a time where most people are working from home or where you have blue-collar workers working in retail shops, factories or out in a field.
